Everyone has a 'dirty little secret'. Some folks seem to feel that that dreaded DLS needs to be hidden away from the world, sequestered away where it can bring them no shame or humiliation. *chuckle* Mine's not so secret, and ... welll ... screw it; I don't feel like hiding it even if it does get me abuse.

I'm a professional wrestling fan. Cope.

I grew up with it; it was one of the two things that my mother and I could agree on in the way of television shows. Professional wrestling and Roller Derby. Yeah, I know. At any rate, it's always been a passion of mine, running counterpoint to my passionate love of ribbon, lace, and things fluffy. I /LIKE/ it, and the detractors can just deal with it.

I have my favorites. The Undertaker's been a lasting favorite; Big Evil has a place in my heart, no matter how his 'image' is reworked. Kane is another, though I'm not overly fond of the new tights he's wresting lin. :p Triple H is an awesome individual, with a physique that few can compete with. And Chris Benoit may well be the most athletically talented of them all; they don't call the man the Rabid Wolverine for nothing.

And then there are the 'old standards', the ones I grew up watching. Jimmy 'Superfly' Snuka, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Bob Backlund, Hulk Hogan, Jay Strongbow, Mil Mascaras, Junk Yard Dog, and of recent political fame Jesse 'the Body' Ventura. Legends in pro wrestling. Of these, my favorites were Junk Yard Dog, Piper, and Snuka. JYD was, I'm told, killed in an motorcycle accident some years ago, and tonight I got the treat of seeing both Piper and Snuka again on television. That's what prompted this, really.

I was home, and doing nothing in particular, and happened to notice the time. I turned on the tv, flipped to UPN, and stopped. Stopped because it was WWE's Smackdown.... and for some strange reason they were playing Roddy Piper's entrance music, a tune I've not heard in nearly 10 years. So I watched.... and out he marches to the ring. Seems he's back with the WWE, back doing his old interview segment, 'Piper's Pit'. Importance? None that really effects the real world, but I'm gonna keep rambling anyway.

You see, twenty years ago, in an interview segment -also- called 'Piper's Pit', Mr Piper whacked Mr Snuka in the head with a coconut, setting off a rivalry that was nursed for weeks. I remember that day, you see. It was the first time my chosen favorites ever ended up fighting each other. :p In the end, it was simply relegated to the back burner and forgotten as newer storylines replaced it. But the WWE has a long record of bring back 'history' when the ratings slip...

... which is probably why as Piper was getting himself settled, out strolls the Superfly. :p All staged, all campy, it's still fun. And it was a nice treat to see two of my old favorites again. Snuka managed to age much more gracefully than Piper, but Piper has the edge having starred in They Live and Hell Comes to Frogtown. *big cheesy grin* Fans of 'B' movies should -definitely- check that second one out.

Anyway, there's my 'dirty little secret'. Not so secret, not so little, and a heck of a lot of fun.

Cheers.

::rising to the podium::

I too am a professional wrestling fan. Since I was a child old enough to know who Andre, Super Fly, Piper, Backlund, and George the Animal were, I've been a wrestling fan.

Last night was 2nd night seder, so alas I did not see 2 of my favs come out into the crowd and wow the fans. But oh, the memories it brings back.

I am a professional wrestling fan, and I'm proud.
