Just remember, that when Jesus was the 'upstart,' that he regularly out-matched the pharasies in literate and topical use of scripture. Then again, He did have a bit of a leg up on them in regards to what He was quoting :)
Relio-zealots, or zealots of any kind, find certain quotes, be it biblical or otherwise; often out of context of the rest of the source material. It fits their narrow point of view and that's all that matters to them.
The more of them you put in their place, the better for you and, ultimately, them. You might just get them to step outside of their own little box. If not, then it's their problem.
