Geekery. Deal.
Jun. 27th, 2008 11:22 pmSo the beast finally decided to stand up and holla tonight. It took four tries to get a version of the Nvidia drivers that worked with the PCIe GeForce 7600GS, and two tries to get one of the two onboard NICs working. Progress is slow, but honestly I'm happy the fscker boots. 3.2ghz P4 on an ECS PF21 Extreme main. Nice board, really. The 3.4ghz Celeron D chip was truly the bad component; I might make a keychain out of it just for s&g's.
I've just started the Winblows Upchuck portion of the install, so there's still a ways yet to go, but I'm hoping that by tomorrow evening it'll be in a ready-to-roll state... I'm starting to go into WoW withdrawal. :p Most of the drives that're in Annex will be yanked and put into Mansion - it's a housing theme, see... hutch (2.6ghz Sempron, deceased), annex (designated spare), burrow (laptop), apartment (old Dell laptop, deceased), bungalow (old ThinkPad, deceased), and now mansion. A pity that the Mansion's a 'handyman special', given that the case is all busted up, but the damned thing works and that's what counts. Anyway, there're two sizeable IDE drives in Annex to yank and install in Mansion, and a pair of SATA drives that've been just sitting since Hutch (the only one I had with SATA support) died. One of them has most of my Doctor Who collection. And then there's the external USB drive, where Torchwood and Sarah Jane Adventures reside. Yes, I'm babbling. I've had minimal sleep, spent too much time grinding numbers trying to unknot my sister's finances, and have finally gotten this frankenstein computer off the ground. I'm happy. Cope. ;)
Hopefully
nightambre will know something about Otakon soon, since that's still pending. And dammit, I'm out of cola again. I could've sworn I ... oh, I've killed the other 3liter already. Err... oops. I'll get more tomorrow. Well, I'm off to go poke more at WinUpchuck. Toodles. :)
