Dunno what the fsck a 'limit switch' is, but that's what'd gone bad.

It's a high-limit switch likely...which is made to trip and cut off the heat if something inside gets too hot. As in, stop your heater from burning your house down. ;)
Sometimes they crap out and trip when they shouldn't...which is likely what happened for you. *gives her shiny dress a swish and goes back to dusting the dildos*
