25 or so folks gathered at a home in Upper Marlboro and said farewells to a larger-than-life individual. Personal accounts were heard, memories shared, and enough tears shed to drown a small town. Most folks vanished almost immediately after the little service was over; a handful of us stayed to offer a final tribute: three hours of free-for-all Halo 3, his favorite game. Without Jas' dominant presence in game, I actually managed to make a kill myself.
He'd been after me to try the game for months, you see... for his sake I gave it a go. It provided more than a few laughs as I actually managed to frag myself a half dozen times (when the pin has been pulled, Mister Grenade is no longer your friend...) ... before I bumbled around a corner and found myself behind the best-of-the-evening player. He was focused on picking someone off above him, so I had lots of time to line up a perfect shot. Jason would've been proud, I think.
Lonnie and Dan are both wrecked. I'm not much better. Greg's better at hiding it; he's likely as bad as the rest of us. Together with Malcom, we were the core that Jason considered family.
