Jun. 22nd, 2005 08:42 pmLast night's assessment of Psychotron's woes was, I thought, a worst case scenario. My evaluation had failed to check one of the pieces, which occured to me while sound asleep (waking me up, but I did get almost four hours of sleep) and pressed me to recheck things. It is not, as I'd feared, a software subsystem failure; it's far more basic than that. The sound setup on Psychotron relies on a Hercules Game Theater XP system - internal card with a massive cable that runs to the external breakout box. It's been a wonderful piece of hardware, one acquired second hand in the wake of the failure of one of Hobbes' machines... and until now has never given me any trouble. The stereo mini-pin jack for the primary sound out is bad at the very least... there's a pair of RCA jacks for the same purpose, and I'm scavenging for one of my RCA patch ... cables. *blinkblink* It just fell on me...
I've heard of 'pennies from heaven', but this is a bit ridiculous...
Anyway, I'll patch the sound out via the RCA cable and see what I get. I'm hoping it's just the mini-pin jack that's bad, as that can likely be repaired or worked around.
Megan and I have since had a long talk and sorted through another set of issues; I'm hoping this locks things down, as there's not much more I can take. :/
There -has- been some good news... a friend who was possibly facing the cancer bullet's been cleared with a false positive. Maybe things will smooth out a bit for her; I know she's been tearing her hair out over it for over a week. *hugs*
That's about all there is from my camp. I'm likely going to curl up on the sofa tonight and watch old Doctor Who episodes... I've about 20 or so stories on VHS that will keep me busy for a bit. My chat client's decided to be dicey; it doesn't like sharing the bandwidth with the bit torrent -and- the usenet raper running. *shrugs* Can't have everything, I guess.
*hugs*
