For most of this past week, it's applied to me. After six days of trying to fight out of or around or over the blackness that's been trying to swallow me, I'd hit 'stir crazy'. Chatting didn't help. Immersing myself in a game didn't help. Likewise with a book. Combinations of the three, with naps tossed in for good measure, only aggravated things further. hen I got up this morning, I simply could not cope with another day rattling around in this apartment. It took me hours to ramp up enough 'give a shit'ness to actually clean up and go, but I did it. I got out of here. And once on the road, my overly simplistic 'get out of the apartment' plan fell apart at the first real intersection. here in hell was I -going-? Unsure what to do, but positive that going back to the apartment was the absolute worst thing to do, I reverted to type. It's a stereotype that my more militant friends rant about being outmoded, dated, and insulting... but I did the 'female thing' that most every guy loathes.
I went shopping.
I've been on my feet cruising just about every shopping center or mall in Glen Burnie for the last nine hours. Shopping alone isn't my preference, but it served a useful purpose. I'm a bit closer to sane now, and spent less than $25... and that includes the pit stop at Denny's. So besides the food, what'd I get? *wry smile* I broke a promise I'd made to myself... a promise that I'd buy no more PS2 games until I'd beaten what I had... but I suspect I'll be able to forgive myself the weakness, and the spending of the last (literally) dimes of my Christmas stash.
I found a used copy of Final Fantasy X-2 for $12. There was no way in hell that I was going to pass that one up. In the process, I had a long chat with a service tech in PowerGamer! about the repair of the original ps0001 PlayStation units, and the discovered flakiness of my controller extender cables when used with the PS2.
Repairing the old unit -will- cost within $2 of the price of a used one... but it becomes a bargain when the price and installation and not getting arrested for purchasing for those purposes a modchip for the replacement unit is factored in.
As for the extension cables
And that, my darlings, has been the day. I'm going to sit here for a bit and rest my feet; I did a bit of cleaning in my room earlier today while waking up, so I've managed to get some 'real' things accomplished as well. Hopefully things will take an upturn now.

I wonder if
dollbecky even knows who
filkertom -is-. I need to check, and see if I can foster another filk fan...

As for the extension cables
- Yes, the flakiness is a known problem: the pressure-sensitive PS2 controllers are more complex than the original PSX controllers.
- No, there apparently are no PS2 rated extension cables - I'm going to do some scrounging via Google and see if I can't find -someone- that's got some.
- Why no extensions? They want folks to purchase the $50+ wireless controllers. Not bloody likely; it's far easier to simply sit on the floor even as hobbled as I am.
- It was also suggested that I look into the USB driven gamepads... because there -are- extension cables for USB. Another thing to look into.

Your dominant hues are cyan and blue. You like people and enjoy making friends. You're conservative and like to make sure things make sense before you step into them, especially in relationships. You are curious but respected for your opinions by people who you sometimes wouldn't even suspect. Your saturation level is high - you get into life and have a strong personality. Everyone you meet will either love you or hate you - either way, your goal is to get them to change the world with you. You are very hard working and don't have much patience for people without your initiative. Your outlook on life is very bright. You are sunny and optimistic about life and others find it very encouraging, but remember to tone it down if you sense irritation. |
