You don't have any no-kill shelters in the area? I know the DFW area has several that are no-kill. They keep the animals until someone adopts them.
Might want to check that out if it turns out that he doesn't settle down. Give him a reasonable amount of time, though, dear. He's had to deal with a bunch of changes in a short amount of time.
