Jul. 20th, 2008 07:40 amYesterday was Goodbye Day, it seems.
Paint finally crossed the Bridge yesterday afternoon. Back in January she'd been given 'a week or two, maybe' due to a massive (for a critter) tumor in her chest. She responded by telling veterinary science to shove it. A bit short of breath, she still continued on 'being a kitty' and generally acting normal up to about two weeks ago, and then declined. The tumor in her chest had metastasized and spread, a new one appearing below her left eye. She stopped eating, and her mommy and daddy finally had to make the tough choice between keeping the much loved kitty, or letting her pass peacefully. She was by far my favorite of the tribe here, and was the pride and joy of her daddy. I desperately wish I could help him, but he seems to be someone who grieves alone. *sigh* I'm sorry, Paint. At least you're not hurting anymore. :(
Yesterday also saw the sacrifice of my brother-in-law's truck. A 3/4 ton Dodge megacab with -everything-, plus some rather nifty modifications. This may seem trivial in light of what C&K are going through with Paint's loss, but I can assure you that it was every bit as devastating to Tommy. He'd struggled for years to salt away enough money for a down payment and had finally ordered his beasty last summer. Back when fuel prices were in the $2.00 range, not the $4.00 range. A few months later, he and my sister discovered just how badly they'd been raped when they refinanced the house (no escrow, no insurance, 2% ARM) and things went to hell fast. It finally came down to a choice between saving the house or saving the truck; Tommy made the decision to keep a roof over his family and sacrifice his dream. I helped him strip off the custom engine mods and return it to factory stock, and then followed him down to the dealer to drop it off. My understanding is that it'll be auctioned off and the proceeds applied to the loan, with the remainder still being due.
There're a host of little problems going on as well, and I'm starting to feel like a pingpong ball.
The good news is that in the process of trying to cope with Paint's passing, K managed to somehow revive Tommy's laptop. Yeah, the one that had a jumbo cup of coffee dumped into it. He apparently completely disassembled it and cleaned each piece, then bolted it all back together and TaaDaa! Also in the good column, my new power supply (the 650w Antec) arrived Friday, and the case should show up tomorrow. Little things, really, but that's what is keeping me moving at the moment.
