In an effort to keep myself functional and my mind (mostly) off things, I've begun watching some of the movies I've been collecting of late. First on the list, one of the very few James Bond movies I hadn't seen:
1979's Moonraker: *chuckle* A fun romp, really. The special effects are a bit dated, but it's not so blatantly obvious that it ruins the film. Michael Lonsdale does a wonderful job as the perpetually unexciteable sociopath Hugo Drax, and plays well against Roger Moore's if it's female and breathing, I'm gonna fsck it, wisecracking Bond. And it features one of my favorite secondary villains: Richard Kiel's metal-toothed Jaws. Blanche Ravalec is utterly adorable as Dolly, though she never says a word in any of the scenes she's in. After hunting her down via IMDB, it looks as though Moonraker is the only English dialog movie she's appeared in. I wish I spoke French for once, so I could hunt down another film she's in. Oh well. Still, it was a fun film to watch, and I really wish I'd managed to catch it in the theater. Of course, the fact that I was 12 when this one debuted probably has something to do with it. :p

It was followed immediately by a second Bond film, an old favorite of mine:
1973's Live And Let Die: This may well be my second favorite Bond film. Roger Moore's debut as 007 is littered with 'playful' double entendre and little puns, making it a gem for me. The boat chase is amazing, with some of the 'accidents' that happened during filming being left in... for example, the pursuit boat was not intended to slam into Sheriff Pepper's police cruiser, but the script was altered to accomodate it since it seemed a nice touch. Voodoo, drugs, and Geoffrey Holder as Baron Samedi make this a good trip. It's a much lighter tone than the earlier Bond films, but still enjoyable. Fluff, mostly, but fun.

This morning I cracked into a different genre:
2004's Gong fu (aka Kung Fu Hustle): Simply amazing. If you're a fan of martial arts films, like a bit of comedy, and like wire fu... get this one. You won't be sorry. I'm not going to say much more about this one, as I'd rather the fu fans that read here go watch it. :)

And now I'm going to fire up another Bond film. But at least folks will know I'm still alive.

I'll be back soon. When I can face a day without hiding, I know it'll be safe for me to return.
*hugs*

...
Casino Royale may just be the strangest movie I've ever seen. That's no small matter, as I'm a veteran viewer of Shock Treatment, Hell Comes to Frogtown, Strange Brew, and Pink Floyd: The Wall.
...
In fact, it was so strange that I'm going to go take a nap and hope that I'll wake up and discover that the viewing 'pleasure' was all a rather odd dream...
