While it's still rainy and dreary outside... I've actually been having a -very- nice day. A long, ongoing chat with darling [livejournal.com profile] wibbble, a bit of work on a new story I seem to have started last night, warm and lovely thoughts about my Mistress, and some time spent carefully removing the hairshadow from my face.

I'm /clean/ again, and in spite of the rain the world is a pretty place. Of course, with the rain go the constant hassles with the DSL; I'm going to be calling Verizon Monday when we get back from New Jersey, and they're going to -fix- this even if I've got to stand over the tech with a bat. :p

JR, a friend who's wife used to work with Megan, stopped in for a bit. Chatted for nearly an hour, and he left with a moderate-sized pile of Pentium I parts. They'll go back into circulation as he builds machines for the kids at a local daycare place, and are less for me to have to clean around. I loathe discarding things that still work, regardless of whether they're actually useful or not, so sending parts with him is always a nice feeling. As I start to dig this place out to prep for moving, he's going to be getting the two large stacks of Pentium 90s, 120s, and 166s that's in the third bedroom. I'm going to hang onto my i386sx16, though... it's been my Xenix project box for forever, and newer hardware is just a waste on it (there're many who'd say that running Xenix at -all- is a waste, but it makes a -very- capable printer server).

The Pentium II 350 and mainboard that came home with me from upgrading my Da's machine will (once I find an ATX case/power supply) be put back into service as an OS/2 Warp 4 machine. Many MANY blessings go to Kelly, who managed to scare up a copy of Warp 4 for me to play with once again. And since he's discovered that a) the most recent (2003!) fixpack actually -works- and b) Mozilla Firebird has been ported to OS/2, I might actually get some -use- out of it. If the DSL'll come back, I'll continue cruising about to see what else is available for it. I'd like to set it up as a machine dedicated to my writing... but that's going to depend on what kind of word processor I can find for it. I somehow doubt that OpenOffice has been ported, though I do intend to check. And that way I'd have a place that I can write, no matter /what/ the other machines are doing.

*frowns as the DSL flames out again* If I weren't going to be out of town this weekend, I'd call Verizon /now/. *wozzles out the window* The SUN came out! Yipppeeee! *bounces* *ponders the OpenOffice site* Do I want OpenOffice badly enough to try and do a complete build for OS/2 by myself. Hrm. Might give it a whirl once I've got it set up, but for the moment I really need to line up something a bit more functional.

For the moment, it's time to do stuff. Megan's home, so I can grab a bite to eat and go get the car taken care of.

*SNUGS!*

And the Saturn once again has four decent skins under it. Replacement tire cost $67.75, and I was out of Merchants Tire & Auto in twenty minutes. Not bad at all.

Preparing to make a run up to my younger sister's place this evening; Megan needs her hair trimmed up, and I might get mine worked on a bit too. Fished out a video card for Tina's comp and burning the drivers for it.

*hugs and runs*

Well, for the moment, Safari has won out as my primary browser for the G3. I'm not sure /what/ is the problem with Mozilla, but if it runs for more than three hours my CPU load pegs 100% and /stays/ there. I'll hit the MozDev boards later and see if I can figure out what's up with that.

I was already downloading MozFirebird when I discovered the preferences settings for Safari... and found tabbed browsing and pop-up blocking. The reasons I was so attached to Mozilla? Tabbed browsing and pop-up blocking. So. I wonder if there's any way to skin Safari to make it a bit more what I'm used to. I'll keep the .dmg for Firebird around, but for the moment we'll see how Safari does. Anyway.

Poking around it seems there -are- packages that let you theme Safari. Interesting. It's a good sign, to my mind. So, now we play.

Oh, for what it's worth, the last several posts have been made via iJournal, on the G3. Lovely beastie, it is.
