Trying to get everything done, and running out of time, energy, and raw patience to deal with it all. One more load of laundry to do. Megan just left on the last minute errands she got rooked into, and will be back hopefully in about 3 hours. Both piggies need to be changed and prepped for the trip, the suitcase needs to be packed, and I need to shave/shower/apply a new patch and then let Megan trim my hair.
And then we get to drive to Jersey, to be subjected to the three ring circus that is her ENTIRE family (even distant relations) that're coming in tomorrow. Joy. Rapture. Ecstasy. I'm taking the laptop and the original Diablo (because my nice new G3 is -not- terribly portable :p) and intend to hide.
As for the G3, many MANY thanks to
wibbble for the assist in the wee hours of the morning... getting an OS back on the silly thing after Kelly'd blanked both harddrives proved to be ... interesting. :p And in the full light of today, I discovered there are 'getting started' manuals that came to me with it that would've helped. But
wibbble's help proved invaluable, and now OS X 10.1 is nicely installed and running, with all of the needed patches and updates on it, along with the most recent build of Mozilla. In the course of the evening, I also managed to get a proxy package up and running on -this- machine, so that ALL of the machines on the home network (my XP box, Megan's XP box, my laptop, and the G3) will work with the DSL. And I've even got a dedicated mail account set up for the G3.
The interface itself definitely is going to take some getting used to, and the adorable-but-nearly-useless hockey puck mouse DEFINITELY needs to be replaced with something a bit more functional. But it's here, and running nicely. Thank you, Kelly. :) The G3 was donated in my direction (along with a borrowed monitor that works =perfectly= once the settings were baselined again) after Kelly got his brand new P4 2.8mhz Dell up and running. So -everyone- is happy with their new machines, it seems. :)
And I discovered that the G3 itself is pretty much bulletproof; it got set up on the table behind me, and not being used to it, I managed to knock it completely OFF said table to crash to the floor. And aside from yanking the network cable out on the way down, it never so much as hiccoughed. Try -THAT- with a consumer-grade Intel machine. :p
*pants* Okie, I gotta get this last load of laundry in and start getting things straight here. I should be back sometime Sunday evening, though I'll likely be utterly fried from the road.
Be excellent to each other....
... and ...
Party ON, dudes!
