What I find particularly interesting is the incorporation of this particular bit of history into some of the 'alternate history' roleplaying games.... in this instance, it's Castle Falkenstein. There's a summary of the Sixguns & Sorcery supplement on THIS PAGE that mentions Emperor Norton, ruler of the Bear Flag Empire. At one point I had borrowed it from a friend, because the historical aspects fascinated me, but my memories are now clouded and fogged. Someday I'll get another copy. :p
And yes... a burial in a total eclipse. My my my. Nothing like going out with a noticable bang, is there?
