Socks Aflame For Jesus!

Yes, well, it's been a very long day... not necessarily bad, but very long. I spent just a bit under three hours with my Mom today, and it was actually *GASP* pleasant. :p I need to hit the bank tomorrow and deposit the funds for her machine-to-be-built so I can transfer it safely over to the PayPal card; in about two weeks she'll be the proud owner of a 1.8ghz Duron.. to replace the Pentium 75 she has currently. But on the bright side, the hard drive and PCI WinModem can be salvaged, even if the rest of it's little better than a doorstop. While I was there, I managed to set fire to one of my socks. While wearing it. Go me, or something.
Ballbuster Video and I had words this evening. As soon as I find a corporate suit type I'm going to plant a size 12 steel toe boot up their arse. *mutters darlky*
I'm still encountering some network oddness with the setup here in the house. For some odd reason, when I put the Black Box MiniHub in place, I can get to /every/ other machine on the network, but can't get out to the net. Tried for almost an hour to get a default gateway route set up, and it says the network is 'unreachable'... even though I can ping the proper machine and even mount its shared partition as a SMB drive. Most peculiar. When I pull the MiniHub out and put the Netgear wireless access point back into place, I can get out to the net but am unable to ping (or SMBMOUNT) any of the other machines in the house.
There's a good reason for this behavior, I'm sure... but the simple truth is that it's eluding me at the moment. :p
I'll figure it out eventually, I'm sure. I -think- I now have all my 'essential' functions set up on this machine. At least, I hope I do. *ticks them off on fingers* Seems so. Need to fiddle with mplayer or VLC a bit, and figure out where CPU priority needs to be set and what the framedrop numbers are; it'll play AMVs that're under 5 minutes in lenght, but buckles under the Bishojo Senshi Sailor Moon live action episodes I have. *chuckles* I'm probably expecting WAY too much from this poor old P-II 350... but with the exception of video playback it handles everything I've thrown at it. So what if I have to turn the machine on with a paperclip. Yes, a paperclip. The case is a Gateway 2000 tower, but it came to me without the inside pieces for the power switch and LEDs. So I've got an old CDROM audio cable hooked to the PWR pinouts, and jackstart it with a stripped paperclip. :)
Hrm. Next big project is figuring out how to wire up the PS2 to display on the monitor in here. I really don't want to have to drag a TV in here. I mean, there's got to be a way, right? That reminds me, I need to check and see if it's got RGB inputs... that'd make it really easy.
Anyway, that's really all that's on my plate at the moment, so I'm off to see if I can make more carnage on Gaia.
A Handmaiden's work is never done. :)
