So after two hours of lockups, reboots, driver updates, and directx updates...
... Star Trek: Armada flat out refuses to run. Why? Well, it's really quite simple. It's ANOTHER FSCKING GAME THAT WON'T RUN ON A GeFORCE 2 MX card. *sigh* The same reason I have to run Diablo II in 2D mode. The same reason it took an hour of tinkering with settings to get Civilization III to run. The same reason that Worms: Armageddon won't run at ALL.
*sigh*
Which puts me right back at the 'I need an ATI-based video card' stage of the game. What's frustrating is that the ATI 7000 VE is priced right around the $40 mark, and is still too much. Having an ATI vidcard would ALSO let me use my TV Tuner card, currently sitting and gathering dust in a box.
What I want to know is how in the hell Nvidia managed to get such a 'reputation for gaming goodness' when the cards are so verdamnt twitchy.
*sigh*
If anyone needs me, I'll be in one of the few games I have that'll actually run on this piece of crap GF2 based card.
