I'm sorry for your losses, Ellie, and I'm so sorry I've been so tardy in posting.
We dismiss so much as 'animal behavior' and 'animal instincts' that we do not recognize love for what it is. Studies are showing that primates display moral behavior; something that is getting both the religious and athiest camps up in arms in anger. "You're saying we're no better than animals" seems to be the gist of their anger.
We aren't.
We're so much worse, because, if these moral underpinnings are part of our instincts, we so often choose to not follow them.
If there is a heaven, any heaven at all, it is deserved by people like Winkerton and Molly. And, maybe, just maybe, if we start paying better attention, we'll be able to join them there some day.
