First off, everyone wave hello to the self-righteous troll that friended me. Given how often my interests are cycled, it's inevitable that something will get misspelled. *shrugs* Some people don't have enough to occupy their time, it seems.

Now then, let's get to the meat of things, yes? Given my now-firm cancellation of Otakon attendance, my mind turns to the computer parts I need to purchase. The first is a lovely case that can be found HERE. The second item is a power supply, which is where the decision lies. The online power consumption tool I found gives me a target wattage of 547w. Not wanting to court the edge of the chasm, I elected to look for something just a little bit bigger. I've narrowed it down to two potentials: This One or This One.

The HEC unit is appealing to my purse, but I'm not sure if it's big enough to handle surges in power requirements such as initial power on.
The Antec unit is appealing because I -know- it's big enough -and- because I'm familiar with the brand and quality.
I've spent the last 18 hours or so trying to decide which one to purchase. I'd really rather not order one and discover I really (only) needed the other. :( So this is directed at the few on my f-list that are heavier into electronics than I am: which do I buy?

And that's the state of the onion, folks. Will someone please make up my mind?

Um, if it helps...

I have an Antec unit that I bought for my old computer and, uh, that didn't turn out so well, and my new computer had a perfectly serviceable power supply built in. If you want, I can sell it to you half-price (about thirty bucks)--I don't really care about recouping all I paid, I just don't want it to be a complete loss, and if I could help out a friend in the process, that'd be great.

The problem is, it doesn't seem to be as big as you want--it's this unit rather than the 650W one.

Edit: Ah, never mind, I just saw that it's not quite big enough for your needs. D: Well, I'll keep it around in case someone else needs one, for now.

*hugs* Thank you for the offer, though. This is the first time I've run into a system that needed more than the Antec 450w unit that was in Hutch. I'd seen them on shelves and in online stores, but never needed them. But this beast seems to be quite a different experience for me.

Given the components I've seen you list, I think the 650 is going to do you the best service. As long as it's something the mainboard can tolerate, I'm all for more power over less.

Neh?

What troll? I see no beasties...what happened?
I can add nothing to the discussion but my unbridled nosiness.
