Squee! Look Mom, NO ANGST! :)
May. 3rd, 2005 06:56 pmAnd finally, a bit of good news, along with a highly amusing (to me) 'what?!'.
Today was the follow-up with the orthopedic specialist, as I noted in my last posting. Up on the table, and he commences with the poking and prodding, then looks up at me with a puzzled expression. "You're bigger than most, but how long have you been a professional runner?"
When I finally picked my jaw up off the floor (where it had landed after bouncing off the protruding belly that used to be muscle mass across my shoulders) and explained the actual career path I'd followed, he laughed and gave me the best news I've had in over a month.
"Last time the knee was too swollen to tell, but this time I can see much better. With the kind of muscle development you have through your legs, you should be completely up to normal activities in another couple of months. This is just a minor setback; even after wrenching the knee again yesterday, you've got muscle tone better than most people without your injury. Take the rest of this week off therapy, then back up on the horse. Come back and see me in a month."
*blinks* As an aging fat chain-smoking half-crippled queen, I would never have expected that kind of prognosis. But it's the same kind of comments I get from the rheumatologist; the arthritis damage and FMS-induced fade is very evident, but I'm amazingly healthy. And then I get told I need to quit smoking again.
My stock response is "I know more old smokers than I do old doctors...". In reality, I really had (and still do, though it's pushed back a month or so) intended to try and finally quit that particular habit this summer. I'm sure that my journal posts will just oh-so-paranoid-and-hostile when that process occurs; I'll have to remember to cut-tag everything then to save folks the pain of my advanced melodrama skills. Don't believe me? Ask
endrion,
foxeryn,
rowandoll, or
nightambre... they've all done roleplay with me and have experience that particular skillset first hand. Feel for them. I know I sure's hell do. :p
On a much different note... many many thanks to
trajan_lj and
raelbny; a lovely box filled with (MORE!) music and a pair of jigsaw puzzles appeared today via UPS. *bounces happily from seated position* Wheee! *kisses them both firmly* Okay, I'm going to start ripping this music, then add the cds to the physical files. Wheeeee! More Rush! *bounds off*
