It's a slow night; typical of a Friday, really. Megan's out with the vast bulk of my local friends/acquaintances seeing the new Harry Potter flick... a trip that I begged off on. I... while I can be very social in small groups, if the group is larger I have to be in an exceptional mood or in the midst of a manic swing or I shut down almost completely and become a wallflower.

I've got Vol 1 of Billy Joel's Greatest Hits ripping now; Vol 2 will be next, and that wraps my every-damn-cd-I-can-find-in-this-house ripping spree into iTunes. When Volume 2 is finished, then the real work begins... integrating almost 11 gigs of mp3's, mostly echoing an equally vast cassette collection. I think the oddest transition thus far was from Simon & Garfunkel's 'Blessed' to Iced Earth's 'Blessed Are You'. Oddness abounds.

More uproar on Gaia... this time it's of the classic 'I'm being a militantly ignorant asshole and you can't make me think' variety. It's pretty much the same as dealing with a belligerent drunk, in that the only thing that'll really get their attention is direct, raw force. Even the most bellicose of boozers becomes extremely cooperative when you're using a piece of steel pipe as a reasoning tool; folks that troll message boards with abrasive, militant ignorance are simply SOBER belligerent drunkards. The reasoning tool remains the same.

What? You think I'm hostile and/or excessive? *snicker* Then you obviously aren't one of my regulars, and it'd be best if you just kept moving. Thank you for playing, and have a nice day. I think my regulars all understand entirely TOO well the kind of person I'm talking about. Hey, Lys? Can I borrow the ClueTankTM for a bit? I promise I'll gas it back up when I'm done...

While it's been a slowish day, that's not been a bad thing. There've been bunnies and puppies and dollies and kitties (and one very seksay bear) to liven things up at different points. You'd almost think I that I was rediscovering my libido. Okay, maybe I am, but if you'd been shown some of the piccies I've seen in the last few days..... I mean, to quote Jed Clampett: Whewwww doggie! Well, it was a different species of critter, but the sentiment's the same, and it remains to be seen just how MANY species there are that can do that to me... o.0

Anyway, that's about all that's cooking tonight. I'm going to do a bit on the magical mystical mp3 massacre, and then hit the sack. And after I'm done hitting the sack, I might go lay down in my bed and get some sleep...

Okay, okay.
I understand the whole April Showers=May Flowers equation. I get it, really I do.
It's JUNE... 20 hours of heavy downpour...

... so much for my melange supply for the summer. Poor little sand trouts didn't stand a chance.

*sigh* *pokes at things online* Well... maybe I'll wander off and do other stuff. Dunno.

Very slow day. And what I /really/ wanna do is either win a lottery so I can play FF XI, or win the lottery and go see Chronicles of Riddick... dolly/bunny/kitty/doggie passions aside, I've got a real thing for macho, ass kicking bald guys.

Which explains my passion for Bruce Willis and Jerry Doyle, as well.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch...
I'm actually hungry. I really hope that's a good sign...

Anyone that's talked to me for any length of time is aware that when it comes to politics, I tend to despise them all as money grubbing swindlers intent on raping the entire nation. I haven't seen a whole lot to make me vary that opinion; some of them champion causes and legislation that I can get behind, but none of them ever personally get my full loyalty. And I will rarely broach the topic of politics in my journal, because it's a a personal thing; everyone has their priorities and focus, and the odds of any two people agreeing completely are so slim it's not even worth mentioning.

But there's a difference between full trust and respect, and respect is a bit more common in regards to my views of politicians. I may not agree with policies and attitudes and goals, but there are some who've acquired that grudging respect by virtue of large accomplishments or heavy burdens. There've been three fairly recent presidents who've hit that category; Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, and Ronald Reagan. Nixon passed on just a bit over ten years ago... and yesterday Ronald Reagan laid down his burden and passed on himself. The CNN story can be found HERE.

I can honestly say that none of this trio had ever gotten to full trust and loyalty, but they'd won grudging respect just for the sheer persistence written in each of their souls. Good, bad, or indifferent, each made a lasting mark on the office of President and on the nation as a whole.

Goodnight, Mr Reagan. You've earned a bit of peace.
