The battered megatower that once held my Mandrake linux box has been fished out of the rubble of the second bedroom. After an hour of disassembly and cleaning, it's quasi-respectable looking again. To give you an idea of how tall this beast is... I've a 'full tower' case housing the Athlon 650/Windows XP machine that I'm typing this on. It's got 4 full height 5.25" bays and a pair of 3.5" bays. Sitting on -top- of that is my blue & white Mac G3. When set next to that stack, the linux tower covers the big blue Apple logo on the side of the G3...
It's a heavy fscker, too. Only having one arm that can do any real lifting puts me in a bind when it comes to moving the bigger stuff around.
But anyway, it's not occupying the end table behind my desk. The Zip 250, Creative 32x CD, and the 5.25" Floppy drives are already mounted in it, as is the Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live & Live drive. The NEC UW-SCSI card's been dusted off and installed. I need to locate a long enough floppy ribbon to reach the drives mounted in the top, but the IDE cable fits to the Zip and CD. I've got a trio of 4gig+ SCSI drives to mount in it, courtesy of Kelly. If I had a four device SCSI strap instead of the three dev one I've located, there's a fourth 4gig drive that could go in... but I really think 12gigs is enough for a firewall/NAT/DCHP box. Overkill... but like -any- of my machines, I insist on it serving more than one purpose. :p Gotta find jumpers for the drives, though. Can't have 'em all screaming as device 0. :p Hrm. Time to check jumper specs... found, and printed.
Assembling we shall go. Wooba. :)
