Well, courtesy of my benefactor (thank you
m_world!), we now have a rental car to get us about while the Saturn's in the shop. The deal arranged via Megan on the telephone was $469 for a compact (Nissan Sentra or similar) car for 14 days.
When I arrived at the rental office (thank you Hobbes for shuttling me around again), things... changed. The computers at their branch had been down all day, so the main office didn't know that all six of their compacts (and all four of their subcompacts) had been rented. The gentleman at the desk had just managed to wrap up a truck rental to the trio of idiots (and I do mean idiots!), and heaved a sigh of relief at their departure. When I told him what I was after, I saw his eyes flick to the clock (4:30, they closed at 4:00), and then out to the parking lot. He looked at me and said 'You're not here to give me trouble, are you?'. I assured him I simply needed a car... my baby was down with a blown engine and I needed to -go-. He thought for a moment, and then started typing.
I walked out with the keys to a 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix (considered full size, two classes above what I was after), for fourteen days for the sum of... $387. And unlimited miles. I am simply astounded; this is a -nice- car. It's every bit as comfy as the Saturn, twice the size, power everything. It's not quite as -nimble- as the SC2, but it definitely gets around. A nice deal, I think. I feel a bit less gloomy. Having a stranger do something so nice kinda made my day, you know?
And now I'm home again. There's a car out front, so I'm no longer dealing with the I have to go somewhere ANYWHERE and I don't have a car blues. Yay!
Now if I can fix dinner without setting the kitchen on fire, I'll be ready to call it a decent day. :p
*hugs and cuddles*
