On the throne. Well, it could've been worse: instead of Conan on the throne, it could've been Elvis on the throne. But yes, I definitely understand the comparison... it also echoed a bit to the Deathwalker books, and Bio of a Space Tyrant.
Yeah, I caught the name. And I'm totally cool with it. I figure if Jesus can Like Dick, then I can too. :p
Faces. I wondered about that. First thought was that it was done as a calculated morale breaker for invaded worlds... but it's too far up to really make a difference, and it /has/ to play hobb with aerodynamics and ship systems. I'm guessing that the 'smog breathing engines' are some half-educated writer's visualization of an active Bussard ramjet... but the design of the ships are /completely/ wrong for that from an engineering perspective. *shakes her head* There's no scoop, there's no wastegate, and the 'glow' wouldn't filter back across the body of the ship; it'd be localized within the core of the scoop.
Yeah, the mind-reading critters. To be honest, I've got enough geek points into the Dune universe that I just filed them away as Navigators focused on human minds rather than four-dimensional space. Another facet of Necromonger tech that I dearly wanted more info on, and got in place of it useless-to-the-story footage of folks who were no longer essential to the focus of the film.
