I like Rose Red - the right cheese factor along with perhaps the most over-the-top 'house gone bad' story ever, and Julian Sands. You can't go wrong with Julian Sands. I'm actually using a little of the ideas in a game I'm running, but repackaging them a lot (there's another Rose Red fan in the game... ;)

Personally, time of day matters little to the creepy-factor, but I can understand it for others. One of my friends made the mistake of watching Event Horizon at night...
