Okay, it's time to clear the air, here, before I get caught off guard and snap someone's head off.
I posted something I thought was amusing to my journal, yesterday. The responses came in several flavors, most of them being private emails to me blasting me for daring to say an ill word about France. [Which is another point of annoyance: If something in my LJ pisses you off, then put your d@mned comment -here-. I'm going to start blocking email addresses. You want to lambast me for a public post? Follow suit.]
My post was in no way linked to the ongoing witch's brew in Iraq... it had EVERTHING to do with the rather arrogant way the French in general look down their noses at us. There is not a Nation on this planet that can claim purity, not a country in existance that can wear the crown of Righteousness. I thought that particular missive was amusing, particularly since I've been THOROUGHLY bashed of late for being one of those 'd@mned Americans'... and for looking like one of those 'd@mned Germans'. Tough nuts. I am. I'm also quite a few -other- nationalities; I can nearly define 'melting pot' on my own.
I'm tired of having to constantly defend myself. I am what I am. Folks don't like what they see, they'll find I'm not holding them here. My post was not intended to anger anyone, but I will NOT retract it; go look at the history books from any country outside of France.
If you're still offended, then bully for you. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to step out into the fscking blizzard and have a cigarette.

As a footnote, I'd like to note that I hate snow... with every swollen joint in my body. :(

Personally...

No problems here, babe, I laughed my ass off.

Date: 2003-02-16 11:00 am (UTC)As I stated in another comment:
I will reiterate: The posting was not in ANY way concerned with the current goings on in Iraq. It's something that amused me as a student of history, and -nothing- else. What set me off later was that one of the folks who'd used private email to flame me was someone I had to deal with a steady stream of German and Romany ethnic jokes... and that another is excessively fond of Polish and Italian jokes. Three of those bloodlines flow through me...

Re: *nod*
Date: 2003-02-16 11:12 am (UTC)Regardless of intent, it was always going to be read in the context of current events... and do you think it would've 'shown up' in your email if not for the current 10 minute hate against France?
Yup
Date: 2003-02-16 11:19 am (UTC)It's been my pasttime for almost a decade, and his for almost two. One of the running jokes (accurate to the period, and found intact in a letter preserved in a museum) is:
What do you get when a French King goes to war?
This was simply an extension of that. I wasn't aware of the '10 minute hate' you mentioned until about an hour ago. I don't generally watch the news; I consider it to be entirely too profit biased and untrustable.

Date: 2003-02-17 02:32 am (UTC)I wrote what I thought was a witty reply to the current situation of french bashing, which, in the text, had nothing about reading the minds of anyone at all, and defending what I still consider to be the greatest byproduct of an often maligned country.
I didn't even realize the attack, such as it was, was directed at me until I read the new journal entry. The person attacking was talking about psychic powers and assaults against his person.
As I always say, I never set out to harm anyone. I was merely making a joke about the failures of Haliburton over the success of ELF, which most of the media has taken to use as an excuse to poke fun at the french.
I understand that there is a lack of wit in the world, and that my use of it is rarely appreciated. For those that have only been given a half-share, I apologize.

Date: 2003-02-18 05:32 am (UTC)2. I'm actually quite intelligent, and witty...just check with Ellie to confirm.
3. The humour did not come across well in text format at all. It read as though you were condemning everyone who believed the original post to be humourous as being anti-French and rabidly pro-George W. which I find to be extremely insulting because despite the fact that he's our President, I find George W. Bush to be the most dangerous form of idiot there is. Admittedly, I am a bit of an Anglophile, so I tend to carry the English re-enactor's view of the French, which is quick to poke fun at them, but I am quite aware of all of the good things that France has given the world as well.
4. I apologize for the quickness of my temper, which is something that Ellie can ALSO attest to.
5. Continuing insults aren't necessary...re: the half-share of wit comment above.
