The brakes?
The ones on my Explorer?
The ones that started grinding about a week ago?
Yeah, them.
The front right caliper froze, and has been utterly wrecked. Rotor's nearly scored through front and back. I've got a handful of days before the rotor shatters and the truck simply won't go anymore.

Prices for just the parts range from the mid 300's to the upper 500's; given the cost of parts alone, this is a job that needs to be done via brother-in-law.

*sigh*

Where are you getting your PARTS?!?!?!?! the dealer?? When I did my Jeep cherokee the rotors were $16. The ones for my truck now were $17. I've never paid more than $45 for domestic calipers,

I'm sorry if this is rude, but I have to ask,

Not rude at all. The rotors are $35 ish. What's brutalizing me is the cost of the calipers + core... none of the parts stores around here stock the parts, so we're having to go the online route and having them ground-shipped to the brother-in-law's house. I sifted five different online parts outfits and bit on the one with the cheapest price... I even tried J.C. Whitney... the order would've been nearly $600 through them.

Final total with core charges is: $447.93, with $115 in core charges to get back on the flip side.

ACK! That also includes front and rear pads for my friend's Escape. So knock another $60 off.

Core charges are such a joke, almost all the parts are made in china these days and not rebuilt at all. They just know 90% of the people won't bother to return the cores . Like "Core charges" on a plastic and aluminum radiator. rrrrrrrrrr

I just got my truck all done and found a hole in the frame in a critical spot, so I have some car blues over here too. Sadly I never learned to weld.

God, cars suck so much. I'm sorry this happened.

Amen. I could've fielded a simple problem, but I'm basically having to replace the entire brake assemblies on the front of the truck.
