It's been a good weekend. Right this moment, I'm in an incredible amount of pain, physically worn... and emotionally buoyant. I've had a wonderful time, and know I'm gonna pay dearly for it, but... it was worth it.
Today's my birthday. A day that's typically been one of angst, depression, and copious consumption of alcohol. This year, however, some friends hit me with a little surprise; Sapphi, whom I've considered a sister for nearly a decade, flew in from down south and spent the weekend with me. Hobbes came up on Sunday for a bit. My Mom, who picked a fight with me Friday morning, was civil and decent when she was here today. Her gift to me was a receipt: one for my nearly $43 of library fines, paid in full. And though Smokie tried to hook up with us, things just didn't work out. Hopefully it'll work a bit smoother next time.
I've had a really good weekend. While she was here, Sapphi covered the cost of the processor I needed to build Megan's new machine. At its heart is a shiny new Celeron 533... a definite improvement from the AMD K6-400 and the old Socket 7 mainboard. And yesterday, while Sapphi and I sat and chattered happily with each other, I assembled the machine and got the operating system installed. Once the NIC is working, it's ready to go. And when the files are all transfered over, I can put the dinosaur case in a corner somewhere and forget about it. :p
And when I found out Friday evening that she was coming, I managed to dig out the entire living room in one big burst (slept like the dead Friday night). So that sorted out too. :) And on a completely unrelated note, Gus and Kweepie are both utterly adorable.

I think I clocked it at 15 minutes.
30 minutes in, I was completely pegged. This person knew me from top to toe, having gone through my walls like a knife through butter. Rather than attacking me, this person simply saw a kindred spirit.
We became friends. I tossed some of my odd interests her way, and she responded enthusiastically. We shared histories, and found points of commonality that we never expected.
We're not alike. In many ways we are drastically different. But it's definitely been a relationship of siblings, sometimes rocky sometimes wonderful.
I've always had a hard time accepting the love I received for her. As she had me pegged ages ago, her love always managed to hit the part of my soul I was desperate to keep from ever having love. It was often my fear at fault, and not her ardor.
She has been all I could ever ask for in a friend and sibling. No matter what, she has always made me smile.
I love her, and I'm glad to celebrate the day she was born.
