Musical Randomness

I suspect that [livejournal.com profile] trajan_lj will be the only one that's heard this one (if at all)... but I've been (pleasantly!) surprised at how diverse my friends are. Anyway...

The One On The Right Is On The Left
There once was a musical troupe, a pickin' singin' folk group,
They sang the mountain ballads and the folk songs of our land
They were long on musical ability - Folks thought they would go far
But political incompatibility led to their downfall

Well, the one on the right was on the left
And the one in the middle was on the right
And the one on the left was in the middle
And the guy in the rear was a Methodist

This musical aggregation toured the entire nation
Singing the traditional ballads and the folk songs of our land
They performed with great virtuosity, and soon they were the rage
But political animosity prevailed upon the stage

Well, the one on the right was on the left
And the one in the middle was on the right
And the one on the left was in the middle
And the guy in the rear burned his driver's license

Well the curtain had ascended; a hush fell on the crowd
As thousands there were gathered to hear the folk songs of our land
But they took their politics seriously and that night at the concert hall
As the audience watched hilariously: They had a free-for-al.l

Well, the one on the right was on the bottom
And the one in the middle was on the top
And the one on the left got a broken arm
And the guy on his rear said "Oh dear"

Now this should be a lesson if you plan to start a folk group
Don't go mixin' politics with the folk songs of our land
Just work on harmony and diction, play your banjo well
And if you have political convictions keep 'em to yourself

Now, the one on the left works in a bank
And the one in the middle drives a truck
The one on the right's an all night DJ
And the guy in the rear got drafted

This little gem is a Johnny Cash tune, taken off the Everybody Loves A Nut album. The link there goes to the Wikipedia article; for God's sake if someone knows of a CD release of this album, PLEASE let me know. IF I ever get unpacked, I'll try and locate a stylus for my turntable just to be able to listen to this album.

*blinks* You're still here? Err... that was all I had, to be honest. I found myself humming this song earlier today, running for my life from the Zanzil zombies in Stranglethorn Vale. Odd, since it has nothing to do with anything. But ... well, that's it. Seriously. Um... bye!

PostScript: On another note, my phone is freaking out. o.o It rings, but when Ipick it up I get dead air and the call waiting beeps. The phone itselfis working, but something's wonky with the wiring. I'm adding this to the tail of my LJ post as well, so folks don't worry.

I recognize the lyrics, but I can't pull a melody out of my brain for it.

... well, I can sing it for you, but I somehow doubt that's gonna help. o.o

I've not been able to find a sound clip, sadly. When I do it'll get tacked onto the post.

Thinking of you singing it made me smile. And I bet the tune will come to me in the wee smas.

*giggles softly* The usual reaction to me singing is panicked screams and someone hunting desperatly for chocolate or pizza to distract me. :p

I admit that I was smiling at you signing infront of your computer over there while I sit here in my cubicle because it's much sillier that way.

*giggles quietly*
Definitely. It got a laugh here as well. *hugs*

If you've got AIM, I can now share the track with you. It's one of my all-time favorites from Johnny, a gem from an album that was solid gold ever track. :)

I have AIM on my home computer, but I don't think I get any real computer time between now and Sunday. AIM name is same as LJ name, please say hello if you see me.

Well I sure remember that one.

Unfortunetly 'Everybody Loves a Nut' was only released on CD in the UK along with 'Pa Osteraker' on the same CD. And it is out of print.

If you are looking for just this track on CD, you can get it on the compliation, which you would probably like anyway, called...

'A Boy Named Sue And Other Story Songs' its a current in print compliation CD going for about 6.99 Its a good one to pick up especially since it has 'Flushed From the Bathroom of your Heart' on it. : )

And I've just been emailed and told that a friend is trying to get their hands on a digital transfer of the album. Here's to hoping... I actually DO own the vinyl. I even own a working turntable. What I lack is anything to do with space or organization...
