Blind, random luck...

I had some errands to run today, things that needed delivering and picking up and so forth. On the way back to the house, I spotted a familiar car in one of the local Taco Bell's parking lot and swung in to say hello. Sandra's worked there for forever, and we chat whenever I roll through; she's a fascinatingly upbeat woman with a very open mind, and is fun to talk to. I wander in, chat with her for a few moments (there's nobody in the place except for one new guy and the Asst Manager), and finally she looks at me, puzzled. "You don't want any food?"

I explained that I had Ma Bell breathing fire down my neck, and if I was careful I'd be able to get 'em off my back tomorrow, so there wasn't any 'free' cash to get munchies with. She gave the AM an odd look, then smiled at me. "What do you want?"

I blinked at her, caught off guard and feeling stupid; something was going on, and I didn't have all the information. That /bugs/ me. And then she laughed and said that the Manager had made a comment in the last meeting about 'taking care of the regulars'.... which they considered me to be. (Yes, I suspect it means I spend /entirely/ too much time at Taco Bell, but what're you gonna do, eh?) A very puzzling transaction later, I'm walking out with a sack of food.

While I'm thrilled at not having to make mac'n'cheese again tonight... when did TB go into the charity business? o.0

*grins* I think kindness has always been- in the charity business, anyway. As for TB, any corporation *is* made of people, and once you reach a critical mass of people, kindness has a way of showing up- once in a while.

Ignoring the effects of People Being Nice for a moment, you could say that 'taking care of the regulars' ensures that they'll continue to be regulars, and will say good things about the place, possibly creating more regulars.

Whatever reason, it certainly was an excellent thing to happen. :o)
