Well, it has definitely turned out to be 'one of those days'. But the Star Wars novels lent me by Hobbes and the county library have been fairly engrossing, enabling some escape. Flip booted back into windows long enough to pull some i/o port info off the printer... and have confirmed that it -is- a braindead peripheral. Those of you that are linux folks - the Compaq IJ300 is on the incompatible hardware for a reason. Although the manual and specs that ship with it assure you of 'complete emulation' of an HP 500C, it's a flat out bald-faced lie. So now I have to try and dig the old HP 6xxC out of the closet and try and nurse it back to life. Or somehow get the 50million pound Apple LaserWriter to work. :p (dear God, someone get me a crane!)

As addled as my wits are, I now have a functioning plan for the cleaning of the house... and a carefully measured plan for where things are going to go. The net result will put my comfy chair in here, along with a tv, vcr, and playstation. A bit of wiring trickery should feed the DVD sig out of this beast, and into the tv... and finally I'll have a home entertainment system. Well, for me, anyway.

Pain levels are running at right about the limits of my endurance. I'm munching my way through a 500 tablet bottle of Aleve fairly quickly, and hoping that my kidneys/liver don't start screaming. Without the money for a doctor's visit, I've none of the more 'accepted' meds to run on. And if my heart stops rather suddenly, then I suspect my pain levels will drop, right? Well, it's not much of a theorem, but it's something.

The tax snafu with the house got resolved with a whopping 3 days to spare.... had it taken any longer to gather the money, we'dve been evicted rather forcefully. Sadly, the one running car we had was a casualty of the money gathering... I managed to quite literally conjure up $3500 in about four days, so I guess I shouldn't complain that the car self-destructed on the way home from the last pickup. *sigh*

But on the positive side, Chris sent me a full set of Iced Earth albums, bless his heart. ('Reaping Stone', from 'Something Wicked This Way Comes' is playing now) Anthemic, story intensive, power metal. It just doesn't get any better than this. They now sit atop my 'favorite band' list, ranked dead even with Savatage... to those that know my that in itself should speak volumes.

Also of note, available via Anime Music Videos ( http://www.animemusicvideos.org ) is a -wonderful- Final Fantasy IX piece done to Iced Earth's "The Dark Saga'. Beautifully done, truly. My other favorite is a Di Gi Charat video done to Blink 182's 'All the Small Things'. Groovy stuff.

Here's hoping

Here's hoping that the pain levels drop without heart failure! Also, thanks for the link - I like anime music videos!
