This'll be brief; I'm a bit annoyed and really need to kill things... D2 is going to occupy my afternoon.

After 12 hours with Kelly and I both working on it, Frankenbeast (which was oddly going to bear the designation 'Nuthouse' in my LAN naming scheme) is still refusing to cooperate. We're down to praying that the photocopies of the documentation on the S1365 Yorktown SCSI adapters arrives from Tyan in the mail tomorrow. From a hardware standpoint, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the machine; drives, memory, mainboard, cpu, cables, and powersupply are all in flawless condition now that my butchered SCSI termination isssues have been fixed. Perfect working order. The issue is drivers, and it's ... ample. Because of chipset oddities, this mainboard and chip combo cannot and will not run any flavor of Windows more recent than version 3.11 (Windows For Workgroups)... but in the past it's served VERY well as a linux box. But the current kernels (2.4.20) are much less capable with SCSI hardware than the old (2.2.19) kernels...

*sigh* It's still down there. I'll go back Monday, and hopefully have some fresh ideas to bounce off Kelly. And if nothing else occurs to me, I'll spend Monday digging out every still-functional IDE drive I have, hoping for something in the 10+gig range.

Now I'm gonna go kill stuff.
